چکیده

Using supersonic molecular beam techniques we have investigated the dissociative adsorption of NH3 on a Ru~0001! surface. At high incident energies, the dissociation increases substantially due to a direct breaking of the N–H bond on impact with the surface. For low incident translational energies, the dissociation depends on surface temperature Ts in an unusual manner, peaking sharply around 400 K. Increasing the surface defect density by low-fluence Ar sputtering strongly enhances the dissociation probability while preserving the overall Ts-dependence. We interpret the low incident energy behavior as due to a mechanism in which a molecular precursor must undergo diffusion to defects before dissociating. At the lowest surface temperatures, dissociation is limited by the diffusion of the reaction products away from the defects in order to reactivate them. A kinetic model based on this mechanism is developed which is in good agreement with all experimental observations. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-9606~00!70340-0#

Preparation and performance analysis of γ-Al2O3 supported Cu-Ru bimetallic catalysts for the selective Wet Air Oxidation of Aqueous Ammonia to Nitrogen.

Series of Copper Ruthenium (Cu-Ru) bimetallic catalysts supported on γ-Al2O3 with different metal loading are prepared and investigated for catalytic wet air oxidation of ammonia to nitrogen. The ammonia decomposition activity was studied at three different temperatures i.e. 150oC, 200oC, and 230 oC and it is found that catalytic activity increases with the increase in temperature along with th...

A FT - IRAS study of ammonia adsorbed on Ru ( 0001 )

The interaction between ammonia and Ru(0001) has been studied by means of Fourier-transform infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (FT-IRAS). Chemisorption of NH 3 on Ru(0001) enhances the IR cross section of the umbrella mode of the molecule. For the first adsorption layer, changes in the IR intensity of the umbrella mode correlate with variations in the orientation of the molecules obser...

Synthesis and Characterization of Ru/Al2O3 Nanocatalyst for Ammonia Synthesis

Ru/Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by conventional incipient wetness impregnation as well as colloid deposition of RuCl3 precursor via in situ reduction with ethylene glycol (polyol) method on alumina support. The samples were characterized by TEM, XRD and TPR techniques. The catalytic performance tests were carried out in a fixed-bed micro-reactor under diffe...

Catalytic Ammonia Decomposition over High-Performance Ru/Graphene Nanocomposites for Efficient COx-Free Hydrogen Production

Highly-dispersed Ru nanoparticles were grown on graphene nanosheets by simultaneously reducing graphene oxide and Ru ions using ethylene glycol (EG), and the resultant Ru/graphene nanocomposites were applied as a catalyst to ammonia decomposition for COx-free hydrogen production. Tuning the microstructures of Ru/graphene nanocomposites was easily accomplished in terms of Ru particle size, morph...

Kinetic Analysis of Decomposition of Ammonia over Nickel and Ruthenium Catalysts

The present study investigates the decomposition of ammonia (NH3) over Ni and Ru catalysts using a kinetic model based on a reaction mechanism consisting of kinetically important elementary steps. Experimental results obtained over a wide range of reaction conditions were reproduced by the model. Recombinative N2 desorption was the rate-limiting step on the Ru catalyst; whereas, the overall rat...
